WHO WE ARE

We’re gamers who’ve spent years figuring out how to play successfully while managing ADHD, anxiety, and other brain stuff. We’re also parents, supporters, and community builders who know what it’s like when gaming gets hard.

WHAT WE DO

We share practical tools, build inclusive communities, and design games that work for different brains. Not therapy. Not special accommodation. Just good gaming for everyone.

Our content includes

  • YouTube: GM workshops, game demos, and “Games We Want to Play Before We Die” livestreams
  • Workshops & Demos: Convention panels, online GM training, and hands-on template sessions for new and experienced game masters
  • The Unnamed Providence: A persistent text-based frontier world running on Old-School Essentials rules — currently in development and looking for builders
  • Game Design: Original RPG systems with accessibility built in, including free GM tools and templates
  • Resources: Session structure guides, pacing strategies, and tools that work for different brains

WHY WE’RE HERE

Because everyone struggles sometimes. Because your brain working differently isn’t a problem to fix. Because gaming should be fun for everyone.

We’re backed by mental health professionals to make sure we’re helping, not making things worse. But we’re not a medical service—we’re a community of gamers who get it.

OUR TEAM

StrangeGamer
MICHAEL DORLAND - Founder & Content Creator

Michael has been immersed in tabletop roleplaying games since 1980, when he first opened the Moldvay Basic D&D box set and promptly began what would become a lifelong obsession with games, storytelling, and community building.

Over more than four decades, he has served as both player and Game Master across a wide range of systems, building worlds, running campaigns, and collecting more RPGs, board games, and video games than any reasonable person should probably admit to owning.

His passion for classic roleplaying remains at the heart of the project. He is currently rebuilding the entire 1st Edition AD&D module line to scale in Minecraft, combining old-school adventure design with modern digital worldbuilding to create accessible, immersive play spaces for today’s community.

Alongside running a full-time career, raising a family, and leading a growing gaming community, Michael focuses on creating tools and content that support neurodivergent players, collaborative storytelling, and ethical uses of AI in game design and community support.

He brings decades of practical GM experience, deep love for old-school gaming, and a core belief that learning through mistakes is part of every great campaign.

RICHARD DODSON - Community & Server Management

Richard brings more than 40 years of tabletop gaming experience to the team as both a long-time player and Game Master.

After beginning as a player in the early days of tabletop roleplaying, he quickly moved behind the screen and has spent decades exploring a wide variety of systems, genres, and play styles. That breadth of experience gives him a strong sense of what makes games engaging, accessible, and worth coming back to.

Professionally, Richard followed an unconventional but fitting path—from degrees in Spanish and History into a successful career in information technology—a background that makes him uniquely suited to managing the technical and community infrastructure that supports the project.

In addition to helping oversee community spaces and server operations, Richard brings a performer’s perspective as an actor and singer, adding a strong sense of voice, storytelling, and character-driven engagement to the broader gaming experience.

He lives in the Wyoming wilderness with his wife, a few cats, and a rotating cast of wildlife visitors who seem to believe the yard belongs to them.

GUS DORLAND - Community Manager & Demo Lead

A lifelong tabletop gaming enthusiast and rising leader in the hobby space, [Name] has been introducing players to roleplaying games since 7th grade, running demos at conventions, local game shops, and community events.

As an asset team member with Monte Cook Games, he has helped showcase and support titles including the Cypher System, No Thank You, Evil!, and The Walking Dead Universe RPG, bringing approachable teaching, high-energy table management, and strong community engagement to every event.

His experience helping new players discover roleplaying games makes him a natural fit for community leadership, where he focuses on welcoming players, supporting events, and helping create inclusive spaces for gamers of all experience levels.

Whether introducing someone to their very first RPG or helping experienced players find new systems to love, he brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and a genuine love for the hobby.

DR. JESSICA DORLAND - Behavioral Health & Learning Advisor

Dr. Jess serves as our Behavioral Health & Learning Advisor, bringing a strong evidence-based background in psychology, education, and human behavior to the Playing AD&D with ADHD project.

She holds a Doctorate in Behavioral Health, along with a Master of Education, Master of Counseling, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physiology. Her professional work has focused on translating clinical and educational best practices into practical, accessible systems that help people learn, grow, and thrive.

For this project, Dr. Jess helps shape the framework that connects tabletop roleplaying with real-world strategies for executive functioning, emotional regulation, learning support, and neurodivergent accessibility. Her work helps ensure that the tools, guides, and community resources we build are grounded in research while remaining approachable and useful for everyday players.

Her approach combines professional rigor with genuine compassion, helping transform complex behavioral science into tools that support focus, creativity, and resilience at the table.

Another popular type of tabletop board game is the party game, designed to be played with a large group of people and often involves social interaction and deception. Examples of party games include charades, Pictionary, and Mafia.

Tabletop board games focus on luck, such as rolling dice or drawing cards, like Monopoly and Scrabble.

In recent years, tabletop board games have experienced a resurgence in popularity, thanks in part to the rise of online gaming and the emergence of board game cafes and board game conventions.

Overall, tabletop board games provide a fun and social activity for people of all ages and can be a great way to spend time with friends and family. So, to have a good time with friends and family, consider playing a tabletop board game!
